What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A spinal adjustment is a highly specialized procedure your doctor of chirpracti uses to free your body from a serious form of health -destryoing stress called the vertebral subluxation complex.
What is a subluxation?
Dr. D.D. Palmer's "displaced vertebrae...causing a pressure on nerves" is now commonly referred to as a subluxation. Subluxations cause bodyh malfunction (dis-ease) which results in lowered resistance to disease, pain imbalance and fatigue and can pave the way for ill health in almost any part of the body. Subluxations are somtimes referred to as "silent killers" because they can slowly eat away at your health and vitality for years without your knowing it. Subluxtion damage includes the following components: 1. Joint damage 2. Nerve damage 3. Muscle damage 4. Tissue damage 5. Overall body malfunction.
What Causes Subluxtions?
Subluxatons are caused by accidents, falls, sports, injuries, birth stress and other trauma or by bad posture or even by emotional stress. Infants and children need to have their spines checked by a doctor of chiropractic as neurological and other health problmes have been traced to spinal damage at birth or in infancy.
Benefits of Chiropractic?
Various studies have revealed the effects and venefits of subluxation correction. In addtion to pain reduction, chirpractic patients also experience significant improvements in overall physical health and mental/emotional health. They report sleeping better and improvements in lifting, walking, standing, sex life, social life and ability to travel. These benefits of chiropractic care were found in all age groups.
At the moment your chioropractor corrects your subluxation, thousands, if not millions, of body fuctions and activities are affected. The flow of nerve impulses over your brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves connecting to your internal organs and tissues is more balanced and your body begins to restore, renew and rebuild itself.
How should I feel after an adjustment?
Many patients have reported a feeling of deepening peace and relaxation after an adjustement. Some have described a warm feeling flowing to various parts of their bodies that's very soothing. Some have reported feeling lighter or more open, and many report feeling very relaxed or energetic, or both. Most chiropractic patients find that the problems that brought them to their chiropractor soon begin to lessen after their first few visits although some people feel no difference after initial adjustments. This does not necessarily mean that they are not receiveing any benefit; healing may be occurring under the surface. And occasionally a person may initially feel muscle soreness or some other uncomfortable feeling after an adjustment.
